It’s that time of year when Spring still feels ages away and the dreary post-holiday days of winter are upon us. If you are like me, this is when I get the decorating bug so chances are this is one of many round ups to come to help refresh your home for warmer and sunnier days.

Art can be tricky- and I know I’m about to upset a lot people right now with what I am about to say. I personally gravitate toward more traditional art, specifically lithographs and oil paintings. Sometimes, when I see pieces of art that are comprised of vertical brush strokes and a price tag of $5,000 I initially think, “But why? I could do that!” My goal this winter is to make one of my own pieces of abstract art and see if I really can create something I like and I’m 99% sure I’ll be sticking my foot in my mouth once I’m finished. I’ll be sure to keep you posted. Regardless, this is NOT to say I don’t appreciate or like modern art. I love the escapism and abstract thinking it demands of the viewer and I have quite a few contemporary pieces of art myself. So don’t get me wrong, I see the beauty in (almost) all art, deeply respect artists, and love a good color study, Grey Malin photograph, or Kaycee Hughes painting. I just struggle sometimes at M.O.M.A…

Sophie
