Home Tour: A Chic 1930s Houston Estate

Good Morning! Today I wanted to share a tour of a gorgeous home in Houston, Texas that I stumbled upon in Architectural Digest over the weekend. Interior designer Bruce Budd and Bute King Architects collaborated to flawlessly to update a classic 1930s estate and give it chic, modern face lift while still keeping the rich architectural details.

An impressive collection of contemporary art fills both the interior of the home as well as the grounds, boasting sculptures from artists among the ranks of Georgia O’Keefe and Joseph Nollekens. Modern details are thoughtfully incorporated to accentuate the masterful traditional architecture of the home. A furniture with clean lines are the perfect contrast with the ornate moldings and columns throughout the house.

P.S. If you would like more details about this home you can find them here.

French paneling and a silk upholstered sofa? Yes please!
Steel french doors give a contemporary feel to the traditional bones of the home and help create the sense of bringing the outdoors inside.
A fresh blue and white palette carries throughout the dining room from the roman shades to the place settings. Silver accents, Louis XVI-style chairs, and topiaries create an extra air of elegance.
I am head over heels for these limed oak floors and paired with the oversized planters and antiques they are even more exquisite.

I love how this view encapsulates the genius of Budd’s work in this home. It is the perfect combination to traditional and contemporary.

The blue and white color theme and is continued into the master bedroom and the continuation of potted topiaries as an accent piece is delightful!

A chic marble master bathroom boasts a stunning view from the steel casement windows.
Budd’s ability to mix unexpected patterns is brilliant, not to mention the swoon worthy lacquered ceiling.
I have seen this guest bedroom for years but never knew the original source until now. It is still one of my all time favorites.
Note to self: file solarium under a must have in my future dream house
The pristinely manicured grounds were landscaped by McDugald-Steele

Happy Wednesday, we’re half way there!

XO,

Sophie
